“The goal of my artwork is to illustrate emotional moments that shape us. I use universal symbols to stand in for everyday experiences and to encourage the viewer to create symbols that may represent events within their life.”
The Cancer Series explores how a family copes with the monster that is cancer. How does a family pull together when the strains and stress surrounding this disease attempts to pull them apart? I base these images on my family's experiences as I faced Leukemia as a child, and as my father battled Lung Cancer.
I am doing ink studies on paper to help me create the initial image which I will then do acrylic mixed media versions on canvas.
The Odyssey Series is about the growth and strengthening of the individual in reaction to life's obstacles. I represent turning points in my life with literal and abstracted symbols to discuss the power and stigma of mental health and the resiliency of a human life.
About Glass Etchings
I discovered glass etching in 2012 through multiple online tutorials that taught etching using either stencils made from contact paper or painted with fabric puffy paint. I combine both, creating the stencils very intuitively. The final results come from the negative space of the stencils themselves: undulating lines, patterns and figures revealed against clear, colored and textured glass pieces.
I etch glassware, mirrors, serving ware and make jewelry with small etched pendants. I like to try to give new life to upcycled pieces I find while shopping local thruft stores in the Tampa bay area.
