About the Process and Design

No etched glass piece is the same. Each unique pattern is created by combining a hand cut stencil as the base design onto which additional details are drawn or painted with tiny brushes, toothbrushes and/or the fabric puffy paint bottle applicator for the resist. Each unique abstracted design often combines small simple figures, shapes, patterns etc. Some designs are floral while others are more tribal in appearance. The painted aspect of the stencil helps create an organic look for the finished etching against the glass surface. When the stencil is ready, the glass is etched with an etching cream for several minutes to ensure a consistent etch. The piece is then is rinsed of etch, the contact paper removed and the entire piece is washed again with soap and water so it is ready for use.
